about us

Personal Landscapes is an exhibition by four emerging artists.  We take separate approaches to interpreting what is a personal landscape but we also share a number of common features.

We all take an abstract approach to our work with every painting grounded in real subjects and experiences.  Although the process of abstracting a subject involves construction – deconstruction - reconstruction, each of us has the objective of creating an atmosphere and feeling which relates directly to our original inspiration.

The process of mark making is an important factor in our paintings.  We also seek to capture the innate flow of the subject in the abstract form.  Colour plays an expressive role in our work which evolves according to our inner aesthetic responses and may bear little or no relationship to the ‘real world’ colour.  As artists, we aim to produce work which will engage the viewer with the same enthusiasm and excitement with which we approach the painting of our work.
